This is still set to London time. Actual time: 1140 pm April 30

This time last week I was asleep in the hotel in Spain, getting up in a few hours to go walk around, drink sangria, relax, and nap on the beach.
It hit maybe 58 here today. Sad comparatively.

Being home is good ... not that I don't or won't miss London or my experience there, but so far goodness has overpowered any weirdness. Doug picked me up Friday and we ate at the Flying Rhino, which was great mmmmm! It was good to see him. I think he was the perfect friend to see first. It was very easy and nice and fun. Then it was off to the suite and I was all oddly nervous but there was joyful squealing upon my arrival and I knew I was home, haha. Katie's show that night was wonderful, and we just primarily hung out in the suite and I slept on the futon for awhile while everyone was hanging out around me. Terribly exciting, right? But I'd gotten up at 6 a.m. because I was incapable of sleeping any longer. Big caf breakfast Saturday then got to see the apartment with Kate. It's perfect. I have two windows. I'm very happy with it. Lori and I went to Coney and to BedBath&Beyond and later we all went to Aaron's birthday celebration at Brady's. Kev Murray was there and we had ice cream cake. Mariss and Lor and I had gone to iParty and bought eye patches for the guests and a pirate hat for the birthday boy. It was great. :D Mo and I went to Kate's show a little late and then we all hung out in the suite again, this time I only took a 10 minute nap in the Papizan chair, but Layla and I did go to sleep at 130. I guess I'm still sort of on my London schedule, and still sort of tired from all of that travelling.

I went to J&Bs for my hours today and everyone was excited and loved my hair and they were all talking about the same old things, which was nice. Nothing's changed. Calling Jay tomorrow to try for hours at Crossroads. I'm a little lacking (very lacking actually) in cash, and seeing as Dad and I went car shopping tonight, I'm going to be needing quite a lot of it very soon. I also need a mattress.

Getting together with Meliss Saturday for lunch, which should be nice. She called tonight, it was nice to chat. Hopefully Danielle will be able to meet up with us.

My room is still a gigantic mess... which is just a constant reminder to how unsettled I am right now. It's difficult to motivate myself to fix it up, but I will. It's definitely good to be here it's just ... (obviously) different.

xoxo

I'm home! It's weird, but good. I slept amazingly well for 8 hours in my bed last night, in my very own comfy bed with all my pillows and my great comforter. Mmmmmm.
Spain was woooonderful, palm trees, beach, sangria, trying to speak Spanish "donde esta el train para la aeropurta?" Mmmmm and it was unexpectedly 80's - 90!!!

Apr 21, 2002

So I said I wouldnt be here, but here I am. Kate and I ordered take away from the Raj Mahal and said we'd be back in an hour, instead of sitting there for a half hour.
Paris ... didn't quite meet my super high expectations, but I know it could if I went back on a different kind of trip. It was still amazing to be there, and I walked about 45000 miles.
Friday night we went to Deux Beers where they'd put "bye bye miss you American guys" on the board (they play americanpie a lot at the end of the night). John made us redwhite&blue shooters and we all did the ice luge and other crazy shooters. Left late (1145?), and John and Devon were meant to be coming over. We all slumped on the couches and I played music and we made popcorn and they finally came over at 1. We chilled till 215 when almost everyone was near sleep. I was almost too awake, due my excitement for Paris. We said goodbyes, which was sad. John is not only wonderful but terribly fun and chances are we won't see him again, but I do have his email address.
I got up at 530 after almost no sleep since I was afraid I'd miss my alarm. Was actually out on time. Walked to Blackfriars because it's only 8-10 minutes further than Farringdon, so I wouldnt' have to deal with the majority of the circle line. Unfortunately, the circle line wasnt' running, which mean that at 620 a.m. I had to walk & run to Waterloo and some how, amazingly made it there in 15 minutes, on time to check in for my train. It was RIDICULOUS. I don't know how I made it.
I slept most of the way on the train, waking up at random times, including once we'd come out of the Channel tunnel, only to find France enveloped by fog.
When we got to the city, though, it was beautiful. I looked at the metro map, and didn't quite get it and figured I'd walk because it was so nice. It was a long walk to the Louvre, but I made it. IMPei's pyramid was smaller than I thought it would be, but the museum itself was giiiiigantic. Walked through the Tuilleries, to Place de Concorde, down the Champs Elysees to L'Arc de Triompf, down to the Eiffel Tower. It was amazing to be able to do that. It was better than seeing the Rosetta Stone (hehe). I thought about going up, but decided it probably wasn't worth it in the middle of the day so I wrote out some postcards. Was thinking of going to Notre Dame, but realized my feet were getting some blisters so I walked back to the Louvre. Only 5 Euros after 3 p.m., so I went in, and I had about an hour and 15 minutes, so I saw all the stars, like the Mona Lisa and Venus De Milo. Mona was bigger than I thought she'd be, since they always go on about how small it is - I was expecting 8 1/2 x 11 " size, but it was probably 6 times that.
I got a sandwich and a coke (ridiculously expensive) and ate and read outside in the sun. Mmmmmm :)
Today was mostly packing, lounging around, making the thickest pancakes ever, and playing in the park. I tried to fly my kite but it didn't work, but I did impress Kate Mike and Bart with my excellent football throwing skills. It was a beautiful day and now my time is done.
Will write from home.

Which "Saved By The Bell" Character Are You?

Apr 18, 2002

Which John Cusack Are You?

Got my pictures back today, they're okay. The ones from DeuxBeers are fun, except in the ones with John holding onto me and Adrienne on the bar, I look like a munchkin. A munchkin.

I'm at work, doing no work again. It's very very quiet in the office.

I had the morning off, and I packed, quite a bit, actually. I was planning on cutting my hair and going to the bank, but packing was it. I think things should fit back in pretty easily.

I'm nervous (or something that feels similar) about going home.

Apr 17, 2002

End of the day ...

So I just made tons of photocopies of pictures of adrienne and kate's. I think this is okay. My scotland/deuxbeers/brixham rolls of film will be ready tomorrow at 10!

I worked all day today. Well, I was AT work all day today, and did absolutely NO work. That kinda blew, I'll be honest.

Tomorrow I come in at 2, and I'm spending the morning closing my bank account, and packing.

Scary.

Lots of actualy things to discuss tomorrow. Right now I have to go home and put some jeans on (yes, it's not 90 degrees here) and walk to Tottenham Ct. Rd/ Oxford Street.

What is up? Where is our heat? Why is it only in the 60s in Barcelona, yet sweltering heat in New England? Boo!

xoxo
Well it's great that my blog can now serve as a quiz - link site for bored people at computers everywhere. Riiight.

I'm trying to find out the scoop on where exactly HughGrant's apartment in About A Boy is. The whole thing is filmed practically in our backyard. It's great.

More and more Clark names on my buddylist are becoming active. Everyone's getting up for Spree Day. Wish I could be there.

Think I'm taking an extra long lunch break. This is kinda bullshit, me being here. ... should I walk around and ask everyone individually if there's something I could do? I think that would be silly. Yesterday, I heard the lady next to me talking on her mobile and she said "Yeah, I haven't got much to do, but no one has." So, I don't think there'd even be much for them to give me. ... Long lunch, bring Zelda back with me. I guess it would be good to still be sitting here.

Oh, and the Trainspotting soundtrack? Racks up a mediocre 4 out of 10. Anyone want it? £3!

xoxo
yeah ... still doing nothing. would all US-ers wake up and get on IM? haha

Mmmmmm it's beautiful today. Not quite as hot as I hear it is at home, but beautiful just the same. Why, I would like to know, is there sweltering heat in Massachusetts, but not in Barcelona? Temps for when I'm there should be in the 60's :P What's that about? Plus, it's a little early for the Mass heat wave, no? Usually it hits during finals week, so I can truly say I've never really studied for Spring finals at Clark. I hope the heat holds up till I come home, I could use some intense sun! :D

Yesterday was gorgeous as well. I used my morning to do laundry, write some postcards (I have mass amounts to send, so friends, watch your boxes), annnnd regain peacefulness within myself. What? Then I headed off to Portcullis House at Parliament where Erin gave Adrienne and I a personalized tour. Pretty cool, I mean, this is the head of the UK government. I've never stood on the floor of the Senate, but I was in both the house of Lords and the House of Commons. The House of Lords is ridiculous it's all goldleaf, to a disgusting point.
some pictures
We saw Erin's office and met the MP she works for, which Adrienne pointed out should fulfill my "seeing/meeting some one famous" quota. We had a yummy lunch for hardly and money so it was wonderful. We each had the grilled tuna, and it was wonderful because it definitely tasted grilled which was totally appropriate to the beautiful day :D I can't wait for summer and barbecues at the beaver trap!

The meeting last night was mediocre, and accompanied, as it was last time, by an odd assortment of food including: icky bagels, cream cheese, yogurt, grapes, clementines, a large apple tart, Fanta, and a pizza so large we had to cut it in half before we could fit it in the oven.

Some one in the office just walked by and they reek (reak?).

I've been in for an hour and no one has asked me to do anything yet, so here I am. I didn't do any work yesterday afternoon, either. Hm. It's okay by me ... I should have brought my book though.

Nothing exciting to report. Talked to the girls last night. So weird that I'll be seeing everyone in a little over a week ... Sleeping in my comfy home bed in a week and a day. SO weird.

Not much else going on. Have not seen hottest-guy-ever again. Just that one day in front of the office.

Group dinner tonight ...

Take care .... Clark kids, have a great Spree Day, I'm incredibly jealous

So I got to bed at 4 a.m. after writing my paper, got it printed at work the next morning, took my exam, handed the paper in, and was done. Our "tutor" gave us his phone number and address. I'll have to send him postcards or something. Went to lunch with Raffi, Karen, and Kate. It was nice. Said goodbye to Karen, walked to the tube with R&K, said goodbye to Raff. There were a few moments of slight sadness. All of these goodbyes are making the reality of "the end" set in.
Went to the National Portrait Gallery yesterday afternoon, which was nice. Breezed around some souvenir shops in Leicester Square, too.
I managed to get 2 returned tickets to the About A Boy screen talk at the Barbican last night. The movie was really good. PLUS it's filmed in what is basically our backyard. One of the first scenes features Clerkenwell Green and the ThaiJen restaurant where I went to eat with co-workers a couple of weeks ago. Hugh Grant is super hot in this movie, by the way. Badly Drawn Boy did the soundtrack, which was awesome. The kid in it is a great actor. Two thumbs up overall. Then, Nick Hornby (who wrote the book the movie is based on, as well as High Fidelity), and the two directors (Paul & Chris Weitz who did American Pie) were there to talk. No one asked any wonderful questions, and this film critic led the chat, but it was still really cool, and all for only £6.50! Gotta love the student discounts they like to give over here.
Going home. We have our big "final meeting" tonight.

Apr 14, 2002

the people next to me are sucking face
it's the most appropriate term for it. it's not making out but its lots of kissing with sucky noises
i want to hit them
I am at EasyEverything.
Things are fine, but writing a paper right now is not easy.
Kate and I have been here for 4 hours.
Due to the fact that a paper that asks you to "discuss" films is incredibly annoying to write (it's like rewriting your notes, just to prove you have them, I think), and that the lure of the internet and the aol immer are so overpowering, we are both only halfway there. Actually, I think I am more like 2/3 there, but I have to wait for Adam come back from the shower so I can copy&paste it to him again and have him see the number of words there. I hate this. I want my bed. :(
Tomorrow I have a final, then lunch with Kate, Karen, and Raffi, and then the afternoon to myself. I'll let you know what I do.

Apr 12, 2002

Let's talk about my intense sadness at saying bye to my boss. He gave me lots of things I've worked on, and the spread I did, and kept being like "it went to fast" haha. He sang the "intern, intern" song to me all day and kept only calling me "intern." It was weird to be like, bye, thanks so much, and he was all I'll send you stuff and stay in touch email me, and he was sad and I was like blinking to not tear up and Michelle was making sad faces and he gave me a hug and I was off and the nice new reception grandpa guy was like "goodnight" and I was all "sniffle sniffle."

I guess I didn't realize how sad it would be. It will be sad to leave the office next Friday, because it will be the end of the whole experience, but I think this was probably sadder because I pretty much just worked with Andrew for 4 months.

We went to Deux Beers last night. We didn't pay for anything. John made us drink the grossest drinks. The thing with Deux Beers is, it's just so fun. The atmosphere and decor is fun, the people are fun, the music is usually fun, and the actual drinking is fun. Mine had tobasco and sambuca and I don't know what else in it, Erin's was bad with tabasco, worcestershire, weird bison grass vodka, and grappa! Ugh. For Adrienne he had Bailey's in one glass, sherry in another, and mixed them so it looked like cottage cheese and she drank it. At least it wasn't spicy. Glad he didn't give me that. I hate that kind of texture. Anyways, it's just not like that at home.
John isn't going to Italy yet and may be in the US in August. Weird. We took a picture with Adrienne and I up on the bar, and John holding onto us for safety. I was scared.

Today we catch the bus to Brixham at 1. I plan to sleep on the 957 hour journey.

I'm going to work on my paper. No one has asked me to do anything, soooo here I am.

Apr 11, 2002

hmmm ... description of a movie we saw clips of in my film class, called My Beautiful Laundrette
Gay ex-National Front bovver boy (Daniel Day Lewis) befriends Asian lad (Gordon Warnecke) and helps him open a laundrette.
sounds like a winner
Afternoon soundtrack so far:
Jimmy Eat World - Clarity
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

I haven't had much actual work to do at work lately, so I've ended up on immer a lot in the afternoons. It's like a warm up for going home, getting back in touch with everyone. On IM it hardly seems like I'm across an entire ocean.

Going to the coast tomorrow, I'm psyched. 7 hour bus ride? Not so psyched. Oh well. It will be great.

Turns out Andrew's not in next week ... he was like "oh it's your last week?" So I'm taking some mornings and afternoons off, so I can see the last few things I want to check out, like the National Portrait Gallery. Then it's Paris, then Spain, then home!

It's gonna be SO weird to be home.

my lungs are so numb from holding back

I'm going to Paris on the 20th! I actually HAVE my ticket now, yeay!
This also means that
1 - I get to go to the cottage in Brixham this weekend - yeay!
2 - I have to write my whole entire paper for my film class, like, now - boooooo

My boss left yesterday at 4 and said nothing to me and I finished my work at like 401 sooooo I just played on the internet.
So far today, I asked if I should maybe be doing something then he asked me where some lady was and I was like uhmmm she's not here ... and then Robin distracted him so now I'm just sitting around blogging. I dont' mind having no work, I just wish I'd brought my stuff with me for my paper. :P

I'm going to the beeeeach. I'm gonna be cold, but, oh well. Super weekend in an English cottage on the English coast. Yeay!

Apr 9, 2002

Last night I went to a movie by myself!
I think that was a good barrier to get over. It wasn't at all weird. I saw Monsoon Wedding and it was great. It's playing at the Bijou, for anyone in Worcester - go see it. I want my nose pierced and to wear lots of bracelets and scarves. I could pull it off.
We've finally started getting mail at the flat again, but alas, none for me.
haha
I'm trying to hang out at work till this hotel in Barcelona writes me back...
Still waiting.
I need to go home.

OH MY GOD

I AM COMING HOME 18 DAYS!

So crazy, isn't it?

The weekend was good. I was really annoyed by the fact that I couldn't fix my schedule online Saturday, but I emailed student records asking them to switch me from computer mediated communication to intro to video production, but I'm also still trying to work the Landforms/Weather/Climate angle, so I can get my SP. Karen told me in class today that she got enrolled in it. Grrrr. I neeeeed to get that perspective out of the way. Intro to Video will be great if I get in, but I'd rather take it next semester when I will have nothing left to fulfill except 1 or 2 200 level courses.

Yesterday I went to Camden Market with Kate, Adrienne, and Emily. I bought tiny little sparkle earrings. Cuuute. Kate is sick! So she went home and I went to the Imperial War Museum with the other girls, where we split up. I totally want to go back there. It doesn't look promising from the outside (boring old brick building), but inside it's very modern and their displays were GREAT. Seriously. I went through the one about spies and the holocaust one. I didn't have enough time to look at everything in either one, so I really want to go back. Plus there are like 8 other exhibits I want to see. Plus, it's free, which you just can't beat.

It was nice to be out on my own.

Last night I made pizza mmm, and watched the West Wing. They are old episodes, but good. Then I ended up watching this movie Jack and Sarah next door. It was all right. Judie Dench was in it, along with Samantha Mathis (I think that's her name), who was in Little Women. Yeah it was weird, but we were all very engrossed. I didn't go to sleep till almost 2 because back in my flat I got my bag in order, then felt the need to read a bunch of Zelda. I don't know what happened, I read 4 books in my first 4 weeks here, then read 200 pages of I know this much is true and gave up, and haven't finished anything else.

Andrew asked me if I had plans tonight, asked me if I could stay an hour, but then he doesn't need me. So I'm outs.

xoxo

Apr 6, 2002

I'm at Tinseltown ... the internet cafe/diner for the second night in a row. Last night it was after DeuxBeers with KateAdrienne & A's friend Emily, tonight it's with Kate, pre-Bar38, with the intention of figuring out my course schedule. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to come back for a THIRD day, since the student records website is down. Grrr.

Yesterday I was highly productive on my Friday half day ... I took a nap. That always happens. I did go to Sainsbury's which was good, because now I have food for the next several days. Last night we hung out at the flats, and went to Deux Beers. I really wanted to see the ice luge smash, and John happily obliged! He carried it outside and made me stick out my arms and back my feet up, and then would only let go of it if i promised just to let it slide through my arms. Sure, he was treating me like I was 5, but still, the ice luge was being broken. Except, only the corners broke off, so I picked it up (I'm strong!!!) and chucked it and it still didn't break and this went on with Kate and Adrienne trying too and finally John chucked it way up in the air (I guess he is stronger than super-strong me) and then it smashed sufficiently. I was happy.

Today, Kate and I went to Kensington Palace. I wore flip flops. This was okay for an hour. Then it got really really chilly. The main problem was the wind. Kensington was pretty cool though. Got to see a bunch of the Queen's dresses and a bunch of Dianna's. It was good times. We got Indian food after watching Brookside on tv for too long and the guy was super nice and gave us a discount and extra bread because he remembered Kate from the last time she went in. Lori called later and that was nice :D and now we're at Tinseltown on the internet again. Heading across the street to Bar 38 soon, though.

The stupid student records website isn't working, and it's the whole reason I'm here. Ugh. Fourteen minutes left. Gonna publish and split.

xoxo

Apr 5, 2002

Andrew just walked over and gave me a big envelope and said I should get to see it first - it was the layouts back from the repro house! I don't know if I wrote about it ... I got to redesign something he made and he said mine was better, so we sent both to repro, then with some other people we're going to go over the layouts and they'll vote. But this way, even if mine isn't picked, I still have a nice, professional copy. :D It looked awesome like that.

Apr 4, 2002

London loves this weather, and I love London like this. It's wonderful. All of the pubs have tables and chairs outside, filled with people after work. It's wonderful to walk around. More and more things are blooming!

I walked to Leicester Square last night with Erin, Kate, and Bart. I wore flip flops and my capris :D We got Ben & Jerry's. It was woooonderful.

They're having a competition at the office for the Grand National (big horse race). Betting is big over here. Anyways, you got two horses for a pound and you pulled them blindly out of an envelope. SO root for Paris Pike and Super Franky!!!! hahahahahah

Tomorrow, Prince William will be in London walking in the funeral cortege for the Queen mother. UNFORTUNATELY this is happening at 1130 a.m. and I work till 1. :P Maybe he will be here all weekend? Maybe we will meet. Hehe.

Haha
hope you're having fun
xoxoxo

Apr 3, 2002

It's SO warm out now! The warmest yet! And everyone is much more spring like and there are people everywhere.

And there's a fill in receptionist/security guard for our building today (the fillins are always so much nicer than the regular), and I was smiling walking in and he was walking out and I smiled at him and got a wink.

Haha.

* Everyone in London seems to be happy! *
Scotland:

We stayed at a youth hostel in Glasgow. The hostel itself was great, a lot nicer than the one we stayed at in Bath. We had our own bathroom and shower and a keycard for our room, and there were just 6 of us girls. I wasn't impressed with Glasgow as a city. We walked around Thursday afternoon and saw their cathedral. Behind the cathedral was an acropolis, which was amazing. It was this hill with level upon level of old graves. They're all giant stones, and all of the ones at the top are monuments, some of them were giant. Lots of the older graves were partly broken apart and covered in ivy. It was cool. It would have been wonderfully creepy at night. :) We spent the rest of the day wandering around and went out for dinner, and to a few pubs.

Friday we got up early and took the bus to Edinburgh. Edinburgh (which is pronounced like something between Edinburrrr/Edinburra/Edinburough depending who you speak to over here) was beautiful. We got off the bus and were confronted with wonderful architecture, an old castle, and bagpipes, all at once. The majority of street performers in Scotland seemed to be older men who dressed up to the nines and played bagpipes. I loved it. You could hear them all over the cities. It was a gorgeous day and we had lunch and wandered around and by the castle and through fields of daffodils and sat in a park with our shoes off and I had cotton candy. It was wonderful. We scaled a hill that had some random old buildings on top (including a replica of the Parthenon that was never completed because they ran out of money), and a great view. After some shopping and more time in the park, we tried to find a restaurant that the Let's Go guide recommended for dinner. It was booked. We found this cute place called the Blue Moon Cafe, which turned out to be a gay haven. The food was great and the people were friendly. Took the bus home, went to a little traditional pub, and went back to the hostel.

Saturday we were up early again and trecked around Glasgow trying to find the Mackintosh house. It was supposed to be a museum for Charles Renne Macintosh who Frank Lloyd Wright studied under. It was closed, however, since it was Easter weekend and almost everything in the UK shuts down Friday - Monday. We then took the bus to Stirling. A girl from Clark, Katherine (Lori, I think she was your roommate freshman year, and she hangs out with the Bissells), was on the bus. She's studying in Stiriling, but it was still weird. She lived with Adrienne last year so they had lots to talk about. Stirling was another cute city. We scaled a giant hill and went to Stirling castle, which was interesting. From the top, you can see across to another giant hill where they have a giant monument for William Wallace (you know, from Braveheart). Another great afternoon and back to Glasgow for dinner the little pub again, and sleep. That night there was a weird smelly girl in the room. Other than that, though, I have no complaints.

We accidentally checked out of the hostel an hour late, because we completely forgot about the time change, although we had discussed it in detail on Thursday. Oh well. Then my parents thought I was crazy when I was telling them about it.
signed, sealed, delivered ... i'm yours

it's stuck in my head, who knows why.
went to Filthy McNasty's last night. I was slightly dissappointed. Although the Jamieson & Ginger was quite tasty there was no music like there is supposed to be on tuesday nights and nothing as cool as I'd thought. Ah, well.
was planning on going to sainsbury's last night, and didn't. This means that the only food I own is some SpecialK, JIF peanut butter, Tetley's tea, and some Easter candy. Hmm.

Apr 1, 2002

Happy post-Easter! I hope you got lots of candy to rot your teeth!!! Yummmmm!
Things are good.
Being April 1, I have 25 days till I'm home ... or 24 days, I don't know, but it will be nice. Mum said we could have the Jade that night, yummm. Looking forward to seeing all of you, as I'll probably travel to Worcester on the 26th. I wonder if you'll look the same?
xoxo
