i will make it through. i will.

tonight i had my last council meeting, ever. some nice goodbyes and thank yous were said to me and rich before the end. i feel good about it, because we passed the resolution that council will only buy recycled copy paper and we will urge the administration and physical plant to do the same. good job guys, finally.

had a fun weekend ... saw the younger pete from pete&pete's band play at the harp in amherst. had a good time celebrating meredith's birthday and hanging out with those guys. got to see holy cross' fireworks show tonight ... best view in worcester, from the very top of the science building. pretty sweet.

tomorrow night? fun. and fun only.

easter weekend was pretty good ... worked friday night. headed home after because no one was in worcester, or at least no one was doing anything in worcester. got a good night's sleep and got up at 9 to get my car inspected (which didn't happen b/c the guy's machine was down and i realized i have a whole other month to do it - the number is faded from the sticker, i'm not actually blind). got it washed, the escort is looking pretty hott, i must say.

went dress shopping with mom for most of saturday afternoon. did laundry, observed the sunset for astronomy, watched harry potter and the chamber of secrets (GREAT), stayed up doing laundry and watching an SNL rerun. it was a good day.

this morning i got up to watch the sunrise (for astronomy) and noted the difference in angle from when i watched it in the same place two weeks ago ... ooooh, aaaah. went back to bed. meant to get up at 830, but shut of the alarm and was woken up by mom at 930 to hunt for plastic eggs around the living room with cyndy. she won, as she almost always does. yes, i know we're too old for this. had coffee and waffles and left by 11 for work at 12 :P Work was good, though. People were cheerful and Phil and I split the room and left with $135/each ... a little less than some of our co-workers, but, not bad for 8 hours of work, especially considering there were 2 half hour periods where the state room was dead. so, this means tomorrow i can buy tickets for more senior week activities. sweet.

blah blah blah

i cant believe there's only a week left of school. i'm looking forward to no longer having to worry about these classes. ugh. i wish i knew what was up with culture and the news ... considering we haven't met in three weeks, we took a midterm the last time we met, we only have 2 classes left, and at the second of those we're supposed to be taking the final. what is going on?

two thumbs up to lots of clean laundry, mmmmm :)

Apr 16, 2003

i feel like so much has happened.

the past week has been a lot of fun. thursday night was katie's dance show ... wonderful as always ... nothing really going on that night. friday was the spring formal. we made flirtinis and took umbrellas to meet the school bus, haha. we were under the impression we were running a little late (catching the bus a little after 7 when dinner was supposed to be served at 7), but really we got there at the perfect time. It was after 8 before they served dinner, so we had just enough time to sit around and say hey to everyone and people watch and take pictures. Richard and Brynnen showed up a little later, I'm so glad they were sitting with us. Brynnen kept saying how they just had to because we had gone together freshman and sophomore year. Dancing was fun, too, we stayed till the very last song (which was 'you shook me all night long,' niiice) and so did most of the crowd. had to wait for a bus back, but we all re-met up at the blarney which was fun, although I'm pretty sure I lost my little pink umbrella there, and I really should probably stop by and see about it.

saturday i went to work, a little tired, as friday was a laaate (but very good) night. I was home fairly early because I just took one (large) party. It was pretty good. Saturday night was Katie's second dance performance, then the dance society party, which was pretty fun, although there were definitely a lot of people there who i didn't know. layla and i ran (no lie) to the blarney at like 115 and had a drink and visited people and meliss was there. we came home, richard and i had a heart to heart, and then the night just got fuzzy & weird. some drama went down, but it's all good now. drama ... no good. saturday night was a very very late night.

ended up working sunday b/c they asked if i wanted to, and yeah, i can use the money, so i went. a little tired, but it was all okay. worked with marsela, made some money, and came home. another heated council meeting, this time over the UAB shortening the period for add/drop (i'm okay with it, but the studco vp made a comment about how "retarded" the dean of the college was gonna look when we handed in a petition with all the undergrads signatures saying we didn't agree ... he was so lame, and so inappropriate) as for add/drop, i think it's a fine change, and so does everyone i speak to outside of council (and even a few in). these new kids, i'm not a fan of. another cause for some heat was the resolution to ask PhysicalPlant and the admin. to switch to using recycled paper, and for student council to say we'd do the same. it's such a "clark" thing to do. i'm in complete and total support of it, but all these kids keep worrying about the cost of recycled paper like it's gonna raise our tuition (which, even if it did it'd be like $1/person - which I think most of us are willing to donate). our new advisor is still pretty iffy in my eyes and did not impress me any tonight.

got home kinda late from that again, took a 2 hour nap. got up, hung around for a bit, then decided to stay up till 2 sketching stuff for PR and watching trading spaces. right, so then my alarm went off at 745 and it was spree day. SPREEEE DAY! we stood in line forever to get bracelets, took 85 bagels and came back here for mimosas and clothes and stuff. headed to campus around 12/1230. hung out. had cotton candy. checked out this band called punchline, who were pretty fun, although not so good that i would make an effort to go see them, if that makes sense. had a good time. went on the teacups with lo and kat. nobody puked. we had fried dough, i saw adam, i saw andy van, we danced around to some jam band, and came home to start grilling. the weather was perfect, not too hot, but nice enough to wear summery clothes and feel good :) the bbq was a success, we had a lot of people here, and some coming and going. it was shortlived and adrienne and i were about to walk to movie gallery when doug and tim showed up. they ate leftovers and walked with us. i like walking places from my apartment, knowing that there are things i need/want and can walk to instead of driving makes me very happy and makes worcester a lil better. d & t split and kate adrienne and i sat down in front of the truth about charlie. i fell asleep not 5 mintues in, woke up near the end, fell back asleep, woke up at the end. stayed up long enough to chat with mo and say bye to kate & adrienne when they left. went to bed around 10, set my alarm for 1145 thinking i'd want to go out (we all thought so earlier), but reset it when i got up. woke up a few times thinking i might actually vomit, but finally got up at 930, went to work to play hostess, and came home in time to meet with my group for intercultural.

it's been busy and fun and wonderful. tomorrow is warm, but thunderstorms ... i kinda like those when you don't have to walk places in them, but just can enjoy them as you choose. :)

see you ... xoxo

p.s. more pictures very soon

spring formal? so much fun

Apr 10, 2003

went to the blarney again tonight, with mariss and aaron and john. talked about a lot of nothign and bands we listened to in high school and saw dayna. hopefully she's gonna hang out soon. had an oatmeal cookie shot. it really tasted like oatmeal cookie. john wants to open a bar i told him he should open a shooter bar, and i'll do the marketing. it would be cool to have a "real job"/career.
it would also be cool to go somewhere new. i think i'd really like amherst/northhampton. if all goes well, i won't have to figure anything out for another year.

i should really be asleep. shoe shopping with layla at 1030. katie's dance tomorrow night, spring formal friday, work in the a.m. then katie's dance saturday / party at our place / bars, sunday off thank goodness, but council at 6. riiiiiight

what are you up to?

finally had two great shifts at work, $115 friday, $70 today, you can't beat that.

spent the weekend at home. it was good to sleep, do some astronomy extra credit (why i went in the first place), do laundry, not spend money, and read for class.

had the longest council meeting ever tonight. a lot of people really like our new advisor for her professionalism, but i don't know ... we're just college kids, i think a friendly demeanor wouldn't hurt. the meeting was 6-940 or so. we passed a packet of budgets, something like 9 - 4 and 4 voting reps missing. several organizations sat through the meeting, discussed why they needed more money, and in the end, we didn't change a thing. i hate stuff like this but it matters, and tonight we could have made a little difference, but we didn't. there was finger pointing and raised voices by the end. two more meetings ... i'm gonna try and stick it out.

thursday onward looks pretty sweet ... katie's performance, spring formal, kate again, party, no work sunday morning, spree day. yes, please

tonight in my intercultural communication class, a student was speaking about how he is in support of the war. at first i respected him for speaking openly about his feelings. although i disagree entirely, i appreciated his willingness to present a view that opposes the view held by the majority of the student body (granted most of the class is adults, and i'm not sure what their opions are). then he went on to say that if he "was at Wheaton" he's be the first one "with a bucket of rocks to throw at that girl." i hadn't heard the story and that link does give much information either. but the fact that he made such a blatant, aggressive, violent statement just shocked me. he made a few comments about "those protestors," and I think mo, richard, adrienne, sara and i were probably pretty expressive with our faces, especially about the rock throwing. we were some of the last to leave the room, and the prof. said "bye" we all said "bye" he said "bye all you war protestors." he's made some comments that lead me to believe he is either anti war or at least not whole heartedly behind it, if even just because of the wastefulness of the war and how we could spend the money feeding all the hungry people in the world instead of on bombs.

the guy's statement was just the most ridiculous thing i've heard in a classroom.

from wbz.com "A flag display in Norton is causing quite a controversy
Some Wheaton College students are displaying an American flag, upside down, outside their window.
It's their anti-war statement.
It has evoked such anger, the home has been vandalized and the students have received threatening messages."

I don't understand pro-war people who feel the need to be violent towards those who are anti-war. I don't understand pro-war people who call those who are anti-war "anti American." Aren't we fighting in Iraq right now with the supposed intent of implementing a free-er system of government and way of life? Isn't that one of the core values of US American society? Everyone loves free speech, unless they're saying something you don't agree with. Being anti-war does not mean you are being anti-American. Being anti-war is just as American as being pro-war, because in America we have the right to say how we feel. We have the right to speak out against our government if we choose to, and we can do it without fear of being jailed or harmed. But apparently, the holier than thou pro-war "Americans" feel they have the right to oppress those who wish to speak out - just like the oppressive government we are trying to get rid of in Iraq.

not much else going on today.
peace out.

had a good weekend, definitely. worked friday, hung out at the beav, tried to go to leit's but there was a line and rain was starting. went to the blarney, where somehow we did not know anyone. came home early, but stayed up doing pointless stuff. got up early saturday (930?) but somehow didn't leave for amherst till 1130. had a really good day shopping with danielle, even though all i got was one red top. but it's a great red top. went to this place called the hangar for wings, nachos, and pitchers of beer with danielle, meredith, megan, and elizabeth. brian met us, and later fletcher and his friend toni/y. very fun place, i wish we had one here. a giant plate of wings (up to 4 different flavors, not just buffalo) a giant plate of nachos, 2 pitchers of bud, and a coke was only $36. how can you beat that? fun atmosphere and stuff, too. later we went to the moan and dove. a pretty classy place, with candles burning, and peanuts in the shell! it sort of reminded me of an english pub, everyone just talking, good music playing, but they weren't trying to make you pretend you were at a club or a dance-y bar. fun times. bars out there close at 1 so we went back to danielle/meredith/megan's place and played some hott trivial pursuit. i cheated a lot, for other people. it wasn't an intense game, i felt like everyone should have a chance at winning, haha. after awhile, i didn't get to read cards as much. slept on the couch after everyone left. meredith and danielle got up to see me off at 830, what good friends :) work was pretty good, council was short, the new exec board took over, and then i tried to go to astronomy but it was raining and they were showing a video i've already seen.
today was highly typical except my 225 class was cancelled, which was a nice treat. i made beer steamed shrimp, spanish rice, and biscuits for dinner, since i was home. yum! went to my astronomy observation tonight, saw jupiter near the beehive cluster - ooohaaaah. but it was cold and cloudy. will probably go back thursday to be a super student.

goodnight
